About us

1992

Located on the south coast of England, overlooking the waters of the Solent, the company was formed to provide a specialist instrument design service.

Initially we were closely involved with instrumentation for racing yachts, with equipment designed by us being used on boats winning the America’s Cup, round-the-world races and an Olympic gold medal.

1993

A keen interest in competitive sailing and the part weather played in the sport resulted in the design of a weather station and involvement with the British Olympic Sailing Team in the years building up to the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996. A number of weather stations were installed near Savannah to study the wind pattens in the area which was to be used for the sailing competition. This was the start of a long-term relationship with the British sailing team and other Olympic sports.

1994

Work on the design of a new small hand-held anemometer would lead a collaboration with the American company Nielsen-Kellerman in the designing of the Kestrel range of weather instruments. There are now many models in the Kestrel range which are sold world-wide.

1998

The r-p-r.co.uk domain was registered, and our first web site published.

2003

The ever increasing need to monitor the environment resulted in the development of the SpaceLogger data logger which used a Compact Flash card for cost efficient data storage.

The WeatherFile.com domain was registered, and we started providing live weather readings on the internet.

2007

A new smaller lower cost SpaceLogger was developed which took advantage of developments in memory card technology by using the smaller SD card. A number of variations were developed not only for logging from weather sensors but also for OEM applications most notably for logging sterilisation cycles from autoclaves.

2013

The WiFi version of the SpaceLogger was introduced which removed the requirement for a PC in our internet connected weather stations resulting in much improved reliability as well as reduced cost. This was also a benefit in other applications as data could now be downloaded over wifi without removing the SD card.

2018

A LAN based version of the SpaceLogger was introduced to increase the connection options available and extend the IoT applications.

2019

A new version of the WeatherFile Connection Unit (WCU) was introduced to providing a flexible, compact and rugged internet connected weather station.

2023

rpr-IoT range of LoRaWAN based low power sensor nodes introduced with a new dashboard giving an extra dimension to our remote sensing options.

We are always keen to keep at the forefront of developments and work with our customers to provide solutions.
