One of this beautiful and interesting islands claims to fame is that Flights, leaving the island’s airport at Aikerness to travel to Papa Westray (known as Papay to the locals) is the world’s shortest scheduled flight, of two minutes. A record time of a 53 second flight has been recorded by Pilot Stuart Linklater for this ‘short flight’.

Pilots, passengers and infact anyone, with an internet connection, are able to view the live wind data direct from the FlexiMet system installed at Aikerness airport.
