Yesterday R-P-R received a well-used Kestrel 4000 Pocket Weather Tracker in for a check up. The Kestrel 4000 is an essential part of kit being used in an ongoing, Guinness Book of Records breaking, road trip all around Britain.

Now in its 978th day with 17000 mile completed, this epic journey around Britain, with his Kestrel4000 mounted on the handlebar, former soldier Mark Newton rides his….. mobility scooter!

Mark previously served with the 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards and was on duty with the United Nations in Cyprus when he injured his knee in 1991. Despite several operations, the damage to the former tank driver’s knee meant his condition deteriorated to the point where he now needs to use a mobility scooter.

Keen to do something remarkable after being medically discharged, Mark launched a mammoth fundraising challenge. He is travelling all over Britain on his mobility scooter, top speed 8mph, and sleeps in the trailer at night.

Throughout his journey, Mark is photographing and documenting Commonwealth War Graves, War Memorials, Lifeboat Graves and Memorials in Great Britain. His trek has so far raised in excess of £58,000 for charities virginmoneygiving.com AroundBritain.org
