New Sensor Node Records Surface Sea Water Temperature in the West Solent
As part of our testing program for our new IoT remote sensors a temperature sensor node (model rpr-IoT-T01) was installed on the converted lifeboat Baverstock, which Lymington Town Sailing Club use to start their racing from. The temperature sensor was placed in contact with the bottom of the hull to give a good indication of the surface water temperature.
From July through to December Baverstock was moored to the south of Lymington River mouth in the Solent and just over 2km from our office. The following bar graph gives the average monthly temperatures that have been recorded.
For the more technically minded the sensor node operates from a small battery and uses a very low power radio technology called LoRa (which stands for Long Range) to send data back to a gateway in our office and then on to the internet.
